Arresting a ring specializing in counterfeiting Chivas 38
To have a bottle of Chivas 38 to sell for about 7 million VND, Pham Thanh Phong bought the bottle, washed it, poured in Remy alcohol (cheaper), then stuck on a fake label to sell.
On January 26, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Hieu - Chief of District 2 Police, Ho Chi Minh City, said that this unit had just coordinated with the Department of Police Investigation of Economic and Official Crimes (PC46) of Ho Chi Minh City Police to arrest a suspect for producing and consuming fake foreign branded alcohol in the district.

Through patrolling and controlling according to plan 121 of the economic police force of District 2 police before, during and after the Lunar New Year, the district economic detective discovered that Mr. Pham Thanh Phong (36 years old, residing in District 2) had suspicious signs, so he was followed and investigated.
On the afternoon of January 22, when they discovered Mr. Phong was transporting 5 bottles of foreign-made Chivas 38 wine, preparing to deliver it to the Eastern bus station, the District 2 detectives and Team 7 (PC46) requested an administrative inspection.

As a result of the inspection, Mr. Phong could not present invoices or documents proving the origin of the above bottles of wine.
Expanding the inspection at Mr. Phong's residence, the authorities seized dozens of wine bottles, foreign labels, fake stamps and many tools used to mix and produce fake wine.
Mr. Phong confessed that he bought old Chivas bottles to clean, ordered fake Chivas labels, then bought Remy wine to decant into Chivas bottles and stuck on imported wine labels with alcohol content greater than or equal to 30 degrees to make fake Chivas wine.

The above amount of wine was consumed in the Central provinces, Vung Tau and in the city with each bottle of Chivas 38 costing about 7 million VND. District 2 police are temporarily detaining the above suspect to consolidate documents, continue investigation and clarify.
