Former Director of Vietcombank Tay Do branch arrested.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Chuyen has been prosecuted for his involvement in irregularities in signing credit contracts, leading to prolonged and uncollectible debts amounting to thousands of billions of dong.
On the morning of June 10th, the Investigation Security Agency of the Ministry of Public Security (Department A92) decided to initiate a criminal case, indict and temporarily detain Mr. Nguyen Minh Chuyen - former Director of the Vietnam Foreign Trade Commercial Bank (Vietcombank) - Tay Do branch, and Mr. Tran Anh Huy - former Head of the Credit Department of the Vietnam Foreign Trade Commercial Bank - Tay Do branch, for violating regulations on lending activities of credit institutions.
Previously, the leadership of the Vietnam Foreign Trade Commercial Bank (Vietcombank) decided to dismiss Mr. Nguyen Minh Chuyen and Mr. Tran Anh Huy, along with Kieu Luu Phuc Quan (deputy head), Do Bao Phong Que (deputy head), Nguyen Thi My Linh (head of Customer Department), and Truong Thi Soc Khanh (head of Debt Management Department), demoting them to debt collection staff. In addition, 12 other employees were disciplined with various measures such as delayed salary increases and exclusion from performance evaluations and awards.
It is known that the defendants prosecuted and the officials disciplined are related to irregularities in the signing of credit contracts that led to prolonged bad debts amounting to thousands of billions of VND. According to an internal audit report, as of early 2015, the audit department discovered that approximately 2,300 billion VND was held by customers with improperly signed loan contracts, resulting in bad debts, accounting for over 47% of the total outstanding loans of the Vietnam Foreign Trade Commercial Bank - Tay Do branch.
Following the dismissal of a number of officials, the leadership of Vietnam Foreign Trade Commercial Bank (Vietcombank) has transferred and appointed Mr. Do Trong Phat, Director of the Vinh Long branch, as Director of Vietcombank Tay Do branch.
