Arrested 38 cases, 54 subjects of crimes against women and children

On the morning of July 18, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to deploy tasks for the last 6 months of 2019 of the Family Work Steering Committee of Nghe An province. Comrades: Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Ho Mau Thanh - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports chaired the conference.

In the first 6 months of 2019, the work of building families in Nghe An has been focused on and focused on by Party committees, local authorities, and organizations in leading, directing, and implementing. Thereby, more and more families have implemented the model of having few children and have better conditions for economic development and improving their lives. Many households have escaped poverty, and their living standards have improved. The work of educating family traditions; protecting, caring for, and educating children, and caring for grandparents and parents has been strengthened; the implementation of new lifestyles and environmental sanitation have been promoted.

In addition to the achievements, family building in Nghe An still has many limitations, such as: The awareness of the people, families and communities about the goal of building a prosperous, equal, progressive and happy family is not really adequate. Many moral values ​​and good family traditions such as filial piety, loyalty, respect for elders and subordinates are showing signs of degradation. Social evils such as drugs, gambling, and drinking are still penetrating into families. Especially violence against women and children, early marriage and incestuous marriage still occur in some districts.

At the conference, the steering committee members analyzed and assessed in depth the situation of violence, abuse of women and children and the situation of children drowning. Information from Nghe An Provincial Police: In the first 6 months of the year, the Provincial Police discovered and arrested 38 cases, 54 subjects of crimes against women and children. Of which, there were 19 cases, 23 subjects of sexual abuse (rape, sexual intercourse, indecent assault); 12 cases, 22 subjects of human trafficking of women and children. The whole province had more than 40 drowning cases, taking the lives of more than 50 children.

Based on the analysis of the limitations, the Steering Committee for Family Work of Nghe An province has proposed many solutions to better implement the work of family building in the coming time, namely: Strengthening propaganda, communication and mobilization activities, disseminating legal knowledge on family and preventing and combating domestic violence more widely; further raising the sense of responsibility of family members to prevent and combat abuse and drowning; continuing to direct the establishment and expansion of groups for preventing and combating domestic violence, and sustainable family development clubs in residential communities.
