Shortly after the attack, Swedish police shared an image of the suspect, who appeared to be wearing a hooded jacket. Police later confirmed that they had arrested a man matching the description in Marsta, 40km north of Stockholm, near the city’s international airport.

The man was arrested on charges of terrorist murder.

A second person was arrested shortly afterwards, in Hjulsta, northwest of Stockholm. According to Swedish media, this person had some connection to the person arrested in Marsta.

The attack occurred at 3 p.m. (Swedish time) on April 7 when a truck plowed into a crowd right in front of the entrance to the Ahlens shopping center on Drottninggatan, one of Stockholm's main pedestrian streets.

The beer company that owned the truck said the attackers stole the vehicle while it was parked outside a restaurant delivering beer.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said it was a terrorist attack.

People fled in panic after the crash, many hiding in nearby buildings for hours as they waited for the area to be cleared. People were also evacuated from the central station near Ahlens. At that time, subways, roads and buses were suspended.

Stockholm city authorities are using some schools to set up temporary accommodation for those who cannot return home due to the suspension of public transport.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to the latest update, the attack killed 4 people, injured 15 people and 9 of them are in critical condition.
