Authorities busted a gambling ring operating on a sandbar in the middle of the Lam River.
A gambling ring consisting of 7 individuals aged 38-63, many of whom have prior criminal records, was recently caught red-handed by authorities at a sandbar in the middle of the Lam River.
On July 29, 2025, the Anh Son Commune Police announced that they are coordinating with Team 3 of the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province to consolidate the case file and strictly handle the group of 7 suspects.gambling using the shaking methodThe disc is located in the sandbar area between the Lam River, in the border region between Anh Son commune and Vinh Tuong commune.
The gambling ring was organized by Nguyen Van Dieu (born in 1971), residing in Anh Son commune, Nghe An province. This was a very sophisticated mobile gambling ring with many tricks to evade the police.
Accordingly, each gambling session organized by Dieu lasted 2-3 hours; participants had their phones confiscated during the gambling sessions and were only allowed to join the group if introduced by someone already in the group. Notably, many members of this gambling group had previous criminal records for various offenses.
After a period of surveillance and the application of professional measures, on July 20, 2025, in the sandbar area in the middle of the Lam River, bordering Anh Son and Vinh Tuong communes, the Anh Son commune police, along with Team No. 3 of the Criminal Police of Nghe An province, in coordination with the police of Yen Xuan and Vinh Tuong communes, arrested 7 individuals for gambling using the dice-shaking method.
Besides Dieu, the police arrested six other individuals residing in Anh Son commune: Nguyen Van Thanh (born 1971); Tran Van Hai (born 1963); Tran Van Hoan (born 1972); Nguyen Van Hoi (born 1987); Cao Tien Luc (born 1987); and Le Minh Quy (born 1977).
The seized items include: over 30 million VND in cash; one homemade metal fishing boat, four motorbikes, seven mobile phones, and other related evidence. Currently, the Anh Son Commune Police are coordinating with the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province to consolidate the case file and strictly handle the suspects according to the law.
