Authorities seize large quantities of counterfeit and substandard fertilizers.
(Baonghean.vn) -The Criminal Investigation Police Force for Economic and Official Misconduct of Nghe An Province recently discovered and seized a large quantity of substandard fertilizer that an individual was preparing to sell to people in the mountainous districts of Nghe An.
In early August 2013, the police received a report that an individual from Do Luong was selling counterfeit Viet My brand fertilizer to people in the mountainous districts of Nghe An province. The police launched an investigation. At 9:30 PM on August 21st, at Vinh Son market in Do Luong district, the Anti-Smuggling Team (Department of Criminal Investigation of Economic and Administrative Crimes, Nghe An Provincial Police) discovered a truck with license plate 37S-0091 belonging to Le Thi Huong (born in 1978), residing in Thai Son commune, Do Luong district, loading 193 bags of suspected counterfeit Viet My NPK fertilizer (25kg each). At the scene, the police seized over 5,000 unused bags of Viet My fertilizer.

During the investigation, Le Thi Huong confessed that, noticing the preference of people in mountainous districts for Viet My fertilizers in farming, she came up with the idea of making illicit money by buying low-quality multi-micronutrient fertilizers at cheap prices and then repackaging them with Viet My fertilizer packaging to profit five times the original price.
Authorities are currently collecting fertilizer samples for testing to provide a basis for taking action.
