Arrested robber specializing in robbing motorbike taxi drivers

(Baonghean.vn) - In September and November 2016, in Vinh City, there were two extremely daring and reckless robberies, the victims were elderly motorbike taxi drivers.

At about 11:30 p.m. on September 21, 2016, Mr. Ha Duc Trung (67 years old), residing in Block 4, Le Loi Ward (Vinh City), was working as a motorbike taxi driver in the Vinh Bus Station area and was preparing to go home when a young man came and offered to take him to Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street in Yen Loc Hamlet, Hung Loc Commune (Vinh City).

When he reached the end of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street, far from the residential area, the young man told Mr. Trung to stop the car. Then, the subject reached into his pocket, pulled out a Thai knife and threatened, "If you know what's good for you, give me the motorbike, otherwise you'll die here."

Too scared and weak to resist, Mr. Trung agreed to hand over his motorbike to the robber. After taking the motorbike, the robber sped away into the dark night. After Mr. Trung regained his composure, he went to the Vinh City Police Department to report the incident.

While the detectives were investigating, on November 7, 2016, they continued to receive a complaint from Mr. Nguyen Nhu Ngoc (born in 1957), residing in Block 7, Le Loi Ward (Vinh City). At about 10:00 p.m. on November 1, Mr. Ngoc was waiting for customers in front of Vinh Station when a young man came to hire him to take him to Dang Thai Mai Street, Hung Loc Commune (Vinh City).

When they reached a deserted area, the subject told Mr. Ngoc to stop the motorbike. Taking advantage of the time when Mr. Ngoc went to urinate, with the key still in the ignition, the passenger stole the motorbike and disappeared into the night...

Considering the reckless and daring nature of the two robbery cases, and the coincidence in appearance according to the description, time, and location of the crime, the Vinh City Police Department determined that the subject who committed the two motorbike robberies was one and assigned the Criminal Police Team to establish a special project with code 219C to fight.

Using professional measures, the detectives in the Special Investigation Committee identified the suspect as Hoang Viet Dung (23 years old), residing in Hamlet 6, Ninh Son Commune, Huong Son District, Ha Tinh Province. After having sufficient evidence, the Vinh City Police Department arrested and urgently searched Hoang Viet Dung for robbery while he was at a rented room in Bac Ha Ward, Ha Tinh City.

After consolidating the case file, on January 6, 2017, the Vinh City Police Department initiated a criminal case, prosecuted the accused, and decided to detain Hoang Viet Dung for robbery.
