Man arrested for teaching his 4-year-old daughter to steal.
(Baonghean.vn) - Not content with taking her sister-in-law along to steal money from scooter trunks, Lan even taught her 4-year-old child how to steal. After nearly a year of successful theft, both sisters were caught red-handed.
Two individuals, Cao Thi Lan (33 years old, residing in Hamlet 5, My Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District) and Le Thi Toan (Lan's sister-in-law, 35 years old, residing in Block 2, Dien Chau Town), were arrested on August 6th by Vinh City Police and Truong Thi Ward Police. They are the main suspects in numerous cases of breaking into scooter trunks to steal property. Both sisters are currently being held in custody at Vinh City Police Station.
The two suspects are Toan and Lan.
Lan's family were farmers, but they often lacked food. A friend suggested she go to Vinh City to find work selling goods, saying it wouldn't require hard labor, and she would have food, shelter, and money to bring home. Following her friend's advice, in mid-2011, while loitering at a clothing store looking for work, Lan noticed a customer's scooter parked carelessly unnoticed. She reached into the storage compartment and, unexpectedly, found a wallet containing a considerable amount of money. Seeing how easy it was to steal from scooters, Lan abandoned her farming work and regularly rode her scooter to the city to continue her criminal activities.Seeing her sister-in-law, Le Thi Toan, struggling year after year without making ends meet, Lan discussed the idea with her and they decided to go to the city to "make a living." In early 2012, the two sisters often loitered around market gates and fashion shops looking for opportunities. Whenever they saw a scooter left unattended, they divided the tasks: one would shield and keep watch, while the other would reach into the trunk to steal the valuables.
During the past summer, Lan even brought her daughter along, using her as a cover and teaching her how to reach into the car trunk to steal wallets. On June 15th, the two of them stole a wallet from Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (residing in Doi Cung Ward, Vinh City), which contained 40 million VND in cash and a savings passbook with 140 million VND. Then, on July 18th, 2012, the two of them went to Hung Dung market. They spotted a well-dressed woman parking her motorbike at the entrance. They approached her, pretending to have forgotten their keys, and Lan lifted the motorbike seat, instructing her daughter to reach inside and steal the wallet. In this incident, the two of them "earned" 24 million VND and 380 USD.
However, as the saying goes, "those who walk in the dark too often will eventually encounter ghosts," and on August 6, 2012, while plying their trade in Truong Thi ward, the two sisters were caught red-handed. Initially, the two suspects confessed to committing nine motorcycle thefts in the city. The police are continuing their investigation to complete the case, which was established this August.
