Emergency arrest of man 'fraudulently escaping trial'
Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc in Can Tho City was urgently arrested by the investigation agency for "fraudulently trying to get a case resolved" with hundreds of millions of dong.
On June 1, the People's Procuracy of Vinh Thanh district (Can Tho city) approved an emergency arrest warrant for Nguyen Thai Hoc (57 years old, residing in Thanh An town) to investigate the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property”.
According to the initial investigation, on May 20, Ms. T. (33 years old, residing in Vinh Thanh district) accused Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" with the amount of 207 million VND.
Accordingly, Ms. T's husband was prosecuted and detained by Vinh Thanh District Police for "Intentionally causing injury".
At this time, an acquaintance of Ms. T. introduced Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc as having a wide network of connections, knowing many leaders, including the leaders of Can Tho City. This person also told Ms. T. "only Mr. Hoc can help your husband get released."
Afterwards, Mr. Hoc called Ms. T. to arrange a meeting to discuss the case of this woman’s husband. When they met, Mr. Hoc introduced himself as knowing many people working in the prosecution agency.
Mr. Hoc also said that Ms. T.'s husband's case was complicated, and that the money could not be paid at once but had to be taken care of gradually. Thinking it was real, Ms. T. transferred 112 million VND to Mr. Hoc and gave 95 million VND directly.
During the investigation, the police temporarily detained Mr. Hoc. At the investigation agency, Nguyen Thai Hoc admitted his violations.
