'Any NATO expansion into Asia will end in failure'
According to the Global Times, the North Atlantic Alliance is a tool that the US is aiming to use not only to contain China but also to control the entire Asia-Pacific region.

China's Global Times wrote that most Asian countries oppose the North Atlantic Alliance's moves to extend its "tentacles" in the Asia-Pacific region, warning that such NATO plans will only end in failure.
“The Asia-Pacific region does not welcome NATO intervention in the region,” the authors said in a commentary.
“Forcible intervention in regional affairs would certainly provoke stronger opposition to the transatlantic military bloc,” they added.
The alliance has brought instability to Europe and could destabilize Asia, the Global Times said. "The vast majority of countries in the region want the US-led NATO to stop creating tensions, stirring up Cold War mentality and provoking confrontation between blocs in the region," the Global Times said.
According to the authors, the North Atlantic Alliance is a tool that the US is aiming to use not only to contain China but also to control the entire Asia-Pacific region. To this end, the West is looking to strengthen cooperation with its allies in the region, namely Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, in the fields of cybersecurity, fake news and other areas.
However, a Chinese expert told the newspaper that NATO cannot form a similar alliance in the Asia-Pacific region, which he said is “fundamentally different from Europe in terms of ideology, values and geography.” The newspaper concluded: “NATO’s further expansion into the Asia-Pacific will only end in failure.”
Washington is hosting a NATO summit from July 9-11. The bloc's leaders are expected to focus on confronting Russia and providing more military support to Ukraine.
