Arrested young man claiming to be a police officer for fraud

At 7:30 a.m. on May 14, at Star Movie Cafe, 22 Quang Trung Street, Vinh City Police caught Nguyen Kien Trung, born in 1985, residing in Block 7, Ben Thuy Ward, Vinh City, receiving money from Hoang Thi G (born in 1993), residing in Dien Chau District, to help her relatives with their case. The seized evidence included 25 million VND, 1 phone and 1 car.

Previously, in early May 2020, Vinh City Police received a crime report from Ms. Hoang Thi G (born in 1993), residing in Dien Chau district, about a subject defrauding her property with the trick of "running for a reduced sentence", the amount of money appropriated by the subject was 229 million VND.

During the verification process, the investigation agency identified the related subject as Nguyen Kien Trung (born in 1985), residing in Block 7, Ben Thuy Ward, Vinh City. This subject does not have a stable job, and was previously a border guard officer in Ha Tinh, but was discharged from the army due to debt.

Working with Ms. G, the investigation agency determined that in order to deceive the victim, Trung often bragged, claiming to be a police officer, knowing many people so he could easily influence law enforcement agencies to "get his sentence reduced".

After verifying the information, on May 7, 2020, Vinh City Police established a special project, concentrating forces to quickly arrest the subject, without affecting the reputation and image of the People's Public Security force.

At around 6:00 a.m. on May 14, through professional information, detectives determined that Nguyen Kien Trung had made an appointment to meet Ms. G at Cafe Star Movie, 22 Quang Trung Street, Vinh City to continue asking Ms. G to transfer more cash to take care of the case for her relatives. At 7:30 a.m. the same day, when Trung was receiving 25 million VND from Ms. G, he was caught red-handed by Vinh City Police.

At the investigation agency, Trung admitted to all his crimes and confessed that the total amount of money he had appropriated from Ms. G. was 254 million VND. Specifically: in early March 2020, through the social network Zalo, Trung became acquainted with Ms. Hoang Thi G, born in 1993, residing in Dien Chau district (Nghe An).

Through conversations, Trung learned that Ms. G had a brother who was being prosecuted and detained by Vinh City Police for illegal possession of drugs. To take advantage of Ms. G's money, Trung promised to arrange for Ms. G's brother to be released on bail and have his sentence reduced when brought to trial. Because of trust after many meetings, Ms. G transferred money directly and through Trung's bank account many times, totaling 229 million VND. However, in early May 2020, seeing that her brother had not yet been released on bail, Ms. G filed a complaint with Vinh City Police.

Vinh City Police investigators said that in early March 2020, during the first meeting, Trung rented a car, dressed very elegantly, and introduced himself as a police officer, so Ms. G easily trusted him and transferred 20 million VND to Trung.

Currently, Vinh City Police are criminally detaining Nguyen Kien Trung for fraud and appropriation of property by "fixing the case"./.
