According to the investigation results, in mid-February 2003, Ms. Lam Thi Hui (Dao's mother-in-law; residing in Minh Anh quarter, Minh Luong town, Chau Thanh district) hid a lot of cash and gold in a cement jar next to the bathroom inside the house but was discovered by her daughter-in-law.

At that time, Dao admitted to stealing both the gold jar and cash from her mother-in-law. However, on March 4, 2004, the Chau Thanh District Police Department had to issue a wanted notice for Dao because Mrs. Hui's daughter-in-law had fled the area.
After more than 15 years, the authorities discovered that Dao had taken the money and gold stolen from her mother-in-law and fled to live in neighborhood 1B, Chanh Phu Hoa ward, Ben Cat town, Binh Duong province and arrested her.
