Suspect arrested for spreading rumors that "BIDV Chairman has been arrested"
After nearly four months of investigation, the General Department of Security 2 - Ministry of Public Security has identified three individuals who spread the false rumor that "BIDV Chairman Tran Bac Ha has been arrested," which shook the banking and securities systems in February 2013, according to a report by Vietnam Television (VTV).

Specifically, the three individuals who spread the rumors were born in 1976, 1980, and 1985 and are currently working in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The investigation revealed that their motives were not destructive but rather aimed at economic gain, as they are all small-scale stock market investors.
"On the other hand, these individuals were influenced by reactionary online forums, conflicting information about the high-level personnel changes in the Party and State, and, wanting to appear well-informed, spread rumors to attract attention on online forums," the VTV news report stated.
Earlier, on the morning of February 21, 2013, while Tran Bac Ha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Investment and Development Bank (BIDV), was chairing a meeting of the entire BIDV leadership to implement the business plan, the aforementioned rumor emerged.
This information immediately sent shockwaves through the financial markets, with the stock market experiencing a sharp decline.
Immediately after rumors of his arrest surfaced, Mr. Tran Bac Ha stated that those spreading the rumors had likely earned at least 500-700 billion VND from the stock markets, gold, and exchange rates, which experienced rather unusual fluctuations during the three days from February 19-21, when four stocks were suspected of being manipulated. Investigating this matter, according to Mr. Ha, would not be too difficult; it would only require information from the securities depository center.
