Long was slashed many times by Hau, causing serious injuries. |
At around 9:30 a.m. on June 5, 9-year-old Tran Thanh Long was playing alone on the inter-commune road in Nam Minh Le village (Quang Minh commune, Ba Don town) when Hoang Minh Hau (35 years old, living in the same commune) rushed in with a knife and attacked him repeatedly, slashing his face and head, causing the victim to collapse.
Seeing this, villagers ran to stop it but it was too late. Afterwards, everyone rushed to take the boy to the emergency room and organized a chase to capture the perpetrator.
Being chased by the people, Hau ran to Minh Le bridge, stopped, took a knife, cut his own neck, and jumped into the river. The people brought Hau to the shore and then took him to the hospital for emergency treatment with a wound 10cm long, 4cm wide, and 4cm deep in the neck area.
Baby Tran Thanh Long was given first aid and transferred to the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi for intensive treatment. Doctors said that Long suffered three knife wounds, including one across his face, which severed both nostrils. Of the two head wounds, the one on the right temple caused the victim's skull to collapse. After undergoing emergency surgery, Long was out of danger.
Before committing the crime, Hoang Minh Hau showed many unusual behaviors such as climbing onto the roof, running, jumping, shouting, cursing in the street... suspected of being high on drugs.
The case is being investigated and verified by Ba Don Town Police.
"We are collecting evidence and taking statements to serve the investigation. We are still unable to detain the perpetrator because he is being treated at the hospital," said Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Hoa, Chief of Ba Don Town Police.
