Woman arrested for leading gambling ring with her mother's assistance.
(Baonghean.vn) - Despite having a prior conviction for gambling, Tran Thi Hien reverted to her old ways, leading a lottery-based gambling ring in Do Luong district. Assisting Hien was none other than her own mother.
In early December 2022, through intelligence gathering and information provided by the public, the Do Luong District Police discovered a drug trafficking ring.gambleThis operation involved recording lottery numbers and betting slips. Notably, this network operated quite sophisticatedly, with the participation of individuals who were related to each other. To stabilize the security situation in the area, the Do Luong District Police reported the matter and sought guidance from the Provincial Police leadership to establish a special task force to combat it.

After a period of investigation, from December 18th to 21st, 2022, the Do Luong District Police cracked a case, arresting six individuals for gambling. These included four individuals residing in Dang Son commune, Do Luong district: Tran Thi Hien (born 1986); Do Thi Sau (born 1965); Hoang Thi Nam (born 1962); Nguyen Thi Phuong (born 1976); and Nguyen Tat Manh (born 1980), residing in Tan Son commune, Do Luong district; and Nguyen Danh Thang (born 1993), residing in Do Luong town.

The investigation team seized 10 mobile phones, 20 million VND in cash, and numerous related documents. Initial investigations revealed that on December 15th and 16th, 2022, the suspects gambled over 120 million VND each day. Of the six suspects, three had prior convictions for gambling (specifically, illegal lottery betting): Tran Thi Hien, Nguyen Tat Manh, and Nguyen Danh Thang.
The ringleader of this group is Tran Thi Hien, residing in Dang Son commune, Do Luong district. Assisting Hien is Hoang Thi Nam, Hien's mother. Hoang Thi Nam used social media platforms like Zalo, Messenger, and Telegram to send messages receiving lottery and betting slips from players. At the end of the day, Nam transferred the money and gambling data to Tran Thi Hien. Winnings and losses depended on the results of the Northern Vietnam lottery. Hien paid the winners the following day via bank transfer.

Currently, the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Do Luong District Police has issued a decision to temporarily detain the suspects for further investigation.
