Former General Director of Vietnam Expressway Development Investment Company arrested

The Ministry of Public Security announced on the evening of March 15 that the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency is investigating the case of "Violation of regulations on investment in construction works causing serious consequences and Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences" occurring at the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project Management Board and related units (the case belongs to phase 2 of the case occurring at VEC Corporation).

Based on the investigation results and collected documents and evidence, on February 14, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency issued a decision to prosecute the criminal case for the crimes of "Violating regulations on investment in construction works causing serious consequences" and "Lack of responsibility causes serious consequences"for the above incident.

In addition to Mr. Mai Tuan Anh, the Investigation Police Agency also prosecuted and temporarily detained 6 subjects for the crime of Violating regulations on investment in construction works causing serious consequences, according to Article 224 of the 2015 Penal Code. The six defendants include:

- Tran Van Tam - former General Director of VEC Corporation, former Chairman of the Acceptance Council of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway project;

- Nguyen Manh Hung - former Deputy General Director of VEC Corporation;

- Le Quang Hao - former Deputy General Director of VEC Corporation, former Chairman of the Acceptance Council of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway project;

- Nguyen Tien Thanh - former Director of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project Management Board;

- Do Ngoc An - former Deputy Director of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project Management Board;

- Ha Van Binh - former Deputy Director in charge of bidding packages, Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Project Management Board.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the above subjects had acted laxly in managing and directing the implementation of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway project, violating the provisions of the law on investment in construction works during the organization of construction and acceptance of bid packages in phase 2 of this project, leading to the putting into use of construction works that did not ensure quality, causing serious damage to state assets.

After the Supreme People's Procuracy approved, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency delivered and implemented the above orders and decisions.

The Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency is focusing on consolidating documents and evidence to clarify the content of the case, the criminal acts of the defendants, the acts of related subjects, and verifying assets to recover and thoroughly seize them in accordance with the provisions of law.
