Group of young men arrested for illegally transporting nearly 9kg of alluvial gold
On April 17, the Long Bien District Police Investigation Agency said it was investigating a case of transporting a large quantity of alluvial gold discovered, arrested, and handed over by Working Group Y5/141 of Hanoi City Police.
Previously, while on duty at the Ngoc Lam-Nguyen Van Cu-Long Bien intersection, Task Force Y5/141 discovered a taxi with license plate 29A-465.25 carrying many young people with suspicious signs, so they asked to stop for inspection.
At the time of the inspection, the police discovered Tran Manh Toan (born in 1986 in Uong Bi, Quang Ninh) carrying a yellow metal bag suspected to be gold dust, but the subject was stubborn and denied it.
Using professional measures, the Working Group clearly identified the metal bag that Tran Manh Toan was carrying as placer gold.
The subject bowed his head and confessed that the metal was alluvial gold mined from a stream in Quang Ninh province and was on his way to Hanoi to find a place to sell it. The weight of alluvial gold Toan brought with him was 8.7kg.
The task force has handed over the case, the subject and the evidence to Long Bien District Police to investigate and clarify the act of "illegally transporting national resources."
