Temporarily detain doctor who caused hundreds of boys to contract genital warts

On December 27, Colonel Pham The Tung, Deputy Director and Head of the Investigation Police Agency of Hung Yen Province, said that the agency had just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Ms. Hoang Thi Hien (48 years old, residing in Da Trach Commune, Khoai Chau District, Hung Yen Province) to investigate the violation of regulations on medical examination and treatment.

Previously, on July 28, the Investigation Agency initiated a case of violating regulations on medical examination and treatment, drug production, preparation, drug dispensing and other medical services at Dr. Hien's clinic.

Investigation results determined that Ms. Hien had serious violations during the medical examination and treatment process, using medical instruments infected with HPV virus to intervene in the foreskin, causing a series of children to contract genital warts.

From May 1st until now, about 100 children in Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen have contracted genital warts after being examined and treated for phimosis at Ms. Hien's underground facility.

The People's Committee of Hung Yen province also fined Ms. Hien 100 million VND for operating an unlicensed medical facility, practicing beyond the permitted scope, and selling drugs at the medical facility.
