Young man arrested for using knife to slit taxi driver's throat to rob property
Using professional measures, after 7 hours of searching, the police arrested the suspect who committed the reckless and daring taxi robbery.
On the night of August 20, Mr. Vu Dinh L (born in 1983, permanent residence at Group 22, Lao Cai Ward), a taxi driver, lingered in the Lao Cai station area in the hope of earning more rides... At around 9:00 p.m. the same day, a customer around 40 years old came and hired Mr. L to take him to the Hanoi - Lao Cai highway area. After waiting there for a while, with the excuse that there were no passenger buses, he asked Mr. L to take him to the Kim Thanh border gate area; then, he asked the car to stop at a location in Duyen Hai Ward, Lao Cai City. It was around 12:00 p.m.

At this point, seeing that it was late and sensing that the customer seemed unable to pay, Mr. L asked him to pay for the car. The subject suddenly held a knife to Mr. L's neck and cut hard. Although in pain, Mr. L still resisted fiercely by reflex... During the struggle, Mr. L bit the subject's left ring finger. After a while of struggling, the subject got out of the car and fled.
As for Mr. L, after the subject left, he drove the car for about 500 to 600m and felt exhausted so he contacted an acquaintance for help. After taking Mr. L to Lao Cai General Hospital for emergency treatment, at 3am the same day, Mr. L's relatives went to Lao Cai City Police to report.

Immediately after receiving the report, under the direct direction of the Lao Cai Provincial Police Department, the Criminal Police Department of the City Police Department focused on the case. Along with coordinating with professional teams and police of communes and wards in the area to check, the working group created portraits of the suspects.
During the screening process, through information provided by the public and professional measures, the detectives established the suspect as Pham Van Manh (born in 1996, permanent residence in Hong Thai commune, An Duong district, Hai Phong city). Manh had a previous conviction for robbery, was sentenced to 7 years in prison by the People's Court of Hai Phong city, and was released in 2022. Before the incident, Manh had been in Lao Cai city for about a week, working as a hired porter.
After 7 hours of tracking the suspect, the Criminal Police Team's detectives arrested Manh who was hiding at an internet cafe on Nguyen Hue Street, Lao Cai Ward.

At the police station, Manh initially confessed that he had no money to spend so he had the idea of robbing property. After observing, the subject chose to hire a taxi from Mr. L to carry out the robbery but failed. Currently, the case is being further investigated by the Lao Cai City Police Department, fighting to clarify the subject's behavior to handle it according to the provisions of the law.
According to information from Lao Cai City Police, the taxi driver was the victim of the robbery and suffered injuries to his neck and required 14 stitches. After the wound was stitched and the bleeding stopped, the victim's health has temporarily stabilized. The victim did not suffer major blood vessel damage, only injuries and lacerations to his cheeks, chin and neck, and his life is not in danger.
