On January 4, news from Binh Phuoc Police said that the police had just handed over the couple Mai Thi My Hanh (39 years old) and Pham Van Thuy (44 years old, both temporarily residing in Tan Phu ward, Dong Xoai town) to Hanoi City Police to investigate the act of abusing trust to appropriate property.
According to records, in early 2008, the couple Hanh and Thuy established An Phu Trading - Transport Service Company Limited, specializing in trading construction materials and transportation in Long Bien district, Hanoi.
In 2009, the couple switched to real estate brokerage. During the course of their business, Hanh and her husband borrowed more than 14 billion VND from many people (the least 900 million VND, the most 4.5 billion VND) to use as capital and to lend again.
By 2011, due to business losses and some of the people who borrowed money from Hanh and his wife went bankrupt, Hanh and his wife could no longer pay their debts and fled to Quang Tri province for refuge. Long Bien District Police issued a wanted notice for Hanh and his wife.
In 2013, Hanh and her husband continued to flee to Binh Phuoc to live and applied for jobs at TH Auto Company (Tan Xuan ward, Dong Xoai town).
Although they had escaped arrest, Binh Phuoc police verified and issued an arrest warrant for Hanh and his wife, to the surprise of many people in TH Auto Company.
