Referee Nguyen Van Kien made HAGL's coaching staff and players angry with the way the match was handled. |
In the match between Sanna.KH and HAGL in round 7 of V.League held at Nha Trang Stadium on the afternoon of May 6, the leaders, coaching staff and players of HAGL were extremely upset with the way the main referee Nguyen Van Kien handled the match. The climax was the penalty kick in the 88th minute successfully executed by central defender Tran Van Vu, bringing Sanna.KH a draw. Before that, Xuan Truong scored the opening goal for HAGL.
This was a situation where HAGL players believed that center back Zarour was not affected by Van Hanh after his jump and header in the penalty area leading to the penalty. The coaching staff and players of the Mountain City strongly protested but referee Van Kien did not withdraw his decision.
Head of HAGL football team - Mr. Nguyen Tan Anh affirmed: "According to the instructions of HAGL Club President - Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc, today, HAGL Club will send a complaint to the V.League Organizing Committee to review the referee Nguyen Van Kien's refereeing style".

According to Mr. Tan Anh: “HAGL will appeal 3 situations. One is the ball when Tuan Manh tackled Rimario, Sanna.KH’s goalkeeper should have received a red card because it was a ball that could have led to a goal. Second, in the first half, players Quoc Chi and Toure had intentional actions but only received yellow cards.
And the climax was when referee Kien awarded Sanna.KH a penalty kick, which made us extremely angry. The right or wrong result will be resolved by the Organizing Committee, but those who follow football must have seen how the referee officiated this match, and we hope the Organizing Committee will be impartial to help Vietnamese football improve."
Match supervisor Bui Nhu Duc said: "We have had a meeting with the referees to learn from experience and will have reports to the tournament organizers. The right and wrong will be clarified later." It is known that VPF has given strong instructions on refereeing at Nha Trang Stadium and will have strict penalties if the referees make mistakes.
