On the afternoon of May 20, the National Election Council held a press conference on preparations for the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 term.

Speaking to the press at a press conference, National Assembly Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc suggested that people go to the polls to elect representatives to the highest authority because this is the right, obligation and responsibility of citizens to the country.

“Voting on behalf of someone else is illegal, depending on the severity, there are different ways to handle it. Regarding the situation of organizing early voting, the Secretary General of the National Assembly said that for voting areas in coastal communes, islands, areas with difficult travel, places where people, officials and employees of units are on duty at sea on election day, localities have reviewed and proposed the National Election Council to allow the election to be held before May 22.

At the request of the Election Committees of 17 provinces, the National Election Council has issued a document allowing many polling stations in these provinces to conduct early voting.

“As of May 20, there have been a number of early voting areas across the country in the following provinces: Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Lai Chau, Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang, Quang Nam, Quang Binh, Quang Ngai, Nghe An, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak. The election atmosphere in the early voting localities was exciting and joyful, the voter turnout was high, and the election organization was well implemented,” said Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc.

At the press conference, answering reporters' questions about the implementation of candidates' promises to voters when campaigning for elections, the Secretary General of the National Assembly said that in a year, delegates have four meetings with voters (before and after the session) to report on their work and activities in the parliament. In addition, voters can watch the sessions broadcast live to monitor the delegates.

According to Mr. Phuc, the Election Council has recently received many complaints, denunciations and petitions from citizens. Many of these were unrelated to the election; many were anonymous, with unclear and repetitive content; some took advantage of the election to file complaints and petitions on issues they had previously filed.

Most of the complaints and denunciations have been studied, considered and forwarded to competent authorities and election organizations. The review and settlement procedures have been carried out in accordance with the legal process and procedures. To date, the National Election Council has not received any petitions or petitions disagreeing with the conclusions and responses of the Election Committees of provinces and cities.

“Entering this phase, the work of ensuring security, order and social safety during the election is given utmost attention. As the election day approaches, the National Election Council has led and directed the relevant agencies to deploy plans and strengthen security, order and safety for the election day. Up to this point, all preparations for the election are ready,” said Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc.
