Nguyen Van Men created multiple Facebook accounts to post ads selling unique and cheap motorbikes and bicycles, defrauding 47 people who sent him deposits to buy the vehicles.

On the afternoon of December 8th, the Cam Le District Police (Da Nang) initiated legal proceedings and arrested Men, 28 years old, for the crime of fraud and appropriation of property through telecommunications and electronic means.

This person then posted images to nationwide online groups specializing in buying and selling cars at cheap prices. To build trust, Mến even prepared documents proving the origin of the cars and sent them to buyers.

Mến urged those wishing to own these rare cars to transfer deposits early into bank accounts in his name and two other people's names, otherwise someone else might buy them.

From July 21st to October 21st, Men defrauded 47 people in Da Nang and several other provinces and cities of over 175 million VND in car purchase deposits. He used this money to buy drugs for personal use.

The victims filed complaints upon discovering they had been scammed. When Mến was apprehended by the police, he was under the influence of drugs, so authorities had to send him to compulsory rehabilitation before transferring him for further investigation.
