Nghe An Border Guard donated more than 500 million VND to create livelihoods for people

(Baonghean.vn) - 17 poor households in 14 villages and hamlets of Mon Son commune (Con Cuong) have just been presented with 17 pairs of breeding goats worth 51 million VND by the Provincial Border Guard to help with the goal of hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

Due to difficult family circumstances and lack of capital to develop production and economy, the family of Ms. Ha Thi Cam, Tan Son village, Mon Son commune, was given a pair of goats for breeding. She happily said: "The army gave our family a pair of goats for breeding. We are very grateful and will take care of them to develop the family economy..."

The goats that support the poor are directly selected and purchased locally by Border Guard officers, so they are suitable for the climate and farming methods of the people.

Excited about the gift from the Border Guard to his family, Mr. Bui Van Suu, from Bac Son village, brought his wife and children very early to receive goats at the Border Guard station. “The officers also gave instructions on how to raise the goats so they don’t get cold or sick. With the pair of goats, my wife and I will take good care of them so we can have more goats…” – Mr. Bui Van Suu said excitedly.

During the 5 years of supporting Mon Son commune, Nghe An Border Guard Command has mobilized officers and soldiers to donate, support and allocate over 510 million VND from the unit's budget to help the locality develop the economy and reduce poverty.

In which, directly bought and gave to poor households 15 cows, 239 pigs, 55 goats; gave 17 savings books worth 5 million VND each to 17 lonely elderly people with no place to live, renovated and repaired 21 houses. At the same time, mobilized sister units and philanthropists such as: Saigon - Song Lam Beer Joint Stock Company supported 60 million VND to build a new house for people; Through the "Forever 20" fund, helped 20 Dan Lai households 30 million VND to buy breeding pigs...

The Provincial Border Guard has sent nearly 1,000 officers and soldiers to repair 9.7 km of rural roads; 7.2 km of irrigation canals, build and repair houses for poor households, directly instruct on livestock and crop farming techniques, build economic development models such as raising black pigs, clean backyards, etc.

The force also coordinated with Viettel Nghe An Branch to give 200 breeding cows to 200 poor households under the program "Breeding cows to help the poor in the border", organized by the Border Guard Command and the Military Telecommunications Group; provided 140 tons of cement to 145 households to build livestock barns and harden house floors. The staff of Con Cuong District People's Committee allocated funds from the new rural construction fund to give 20 breeding cows to poor households worth 300 million VND.

Implementing the annual "Tet for the poor" program, the provincial Border Guard mobilized officers and soldiers to donate 260 million VND to give 520 Tet gifts to poor households and policy families...

To effectively promote the donated breeds, the Border Guard has selected households with financial difficulties but with labor capacity to support breeds, impart techniques and find outlets for the products.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dang Khoa - Deputy Chief of Political Affairs of Nghe An Border Guard said: The Command has directed units to coordinate with localities to survey the needs of poor households to buy plants and seedlings suitable to the climate and weather conditions as well as the specific circumstances of each family, helping to promote the best effectiveness of the support capital.
