Public swimming pool contains 60 liters of urine
On average, each public swimming pool contains 60 liters of urine, which is a good condition for bacteria to grow.
In the hot summer weather, many people want to go swimming to avoid the heat but wonder if the pool water is clean. Researchers from the University of Alberta (Canada) surveyed and measured 31 swimming pools both in hotels and sports centers. The results showed that on average, each public swimming pool contained 60 liters of urine.

Researchers say it's difficult to keep swimming pools clean. The survey also found that one in five swimmers urinates in the pool at least once. Swimmers Rebecca Adlington, Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps have also admitted to urinating in the pool.
Compared to the total amount of water in the swimming pool, the proportion of urine is very small, only about 0.0009%, similar to a drop of oil in a 500 ml bottle of water. However, swimming pool water containing urine is a good environment for bacteria to grow, harmful to the health of swimmers.
