Like many parents with young children, Ms. Bui Thi Hong Nha (Nguyen Binh, Cao Bang) is always worried when her children are off school in the summer. She wants her children to have a fun summer playing with friends but also ensuring their safety.

Nha’s son is 9 years old this year, loves swimming and playing in the water. The inflatable pools sold in stores are too small for his age. There are many rivers and streams near the house but she is not comfortable letting her son swim, so Nha decided to make a simple pool near her workplace so that her son can splash around comfortably.

To make it, Ms. Nha asked someone to get bamboo from the forest (10,000 VND per tree) to join and then spread a canvas inside to create a simple swimming pool. The cost to make the pool was not much: 1 million VND for the canvas, 300,000 VND for transporting 30 bamboo trees and the cost of 3 workers in one day. Ms. Nha estimated that the total cost would not be up to 2 million.

Ms. Nha also bought swimming floats for the children to play comfortably.

The hardest part of making the pool is drilling holes in the bamboo to fit together to form the surrounding frame. Then, the worker just needs to spread the tarp and tie it to the frame.

Up to now, the pool has been built for 3 weeks and is still in good use. Nha's child swims with his friends every day. The pool has an area of ​​25 m2 (3.6 x 7 m) with a water depth of less than 1 m, so it is very safe for children.

Ms. Nha is very happy that her child loves her mother's special gift. She also hopes that houses in the countryside have a large area to make such a playground for their children. She advises that if any family intends to build a similar swimming pool, they should choose old bamboo to ensure more stability.
