Last week, Nghe An experienced historically hot weather with outdoor temperatures reaching nearly 40 degrees Celsius at times. The sweltering, windless weather made everyone feel stifled and uncomfortable, prompting them to seek ways to escape the heat. Besides seeking refuge in air-conditioned rooms, people turned to shady trees and lakes to escape the heat.Swimming pools are one of the best options for relaxing during the recent hot days in Vinh City.
Around 5 PM every day, at the recreational area of Vocational School No. 4 (Military Region 4), adults and children freely immerse themselves in the cool water to escape the heat. The manager there said that in recent days, the swimming pool has regularly seen several hundred people swimming. Not only have the number of swimmers increased, but the number of people registering for swimming lessons has also risen rapidly. With relatively affordable prices: 500,000 VND for 20 lessons; adults swimming for 25,000 VND/session, children for 20,000 VND/session, it suits the budgets of many people.

Ms. Viet Anh from Le Mao ward (Vinh City) shared, bringing her son to swimming lessons: "I believe that teaching children to swim is very necessary, ensuring their health and equipping them with essential life skills. Last year, I enrolled my eldest child, and this year it's my younger child's turn to participate in the course." Ms. Anh also wondered why no schools in the city have offered swimming lessons for children, despite it being a very practical subject.
There are currently three swimming pools in Vinh City. In addition to the aforementioned pool, there is also a pool at the Club and a pool in Hung Phuc ward (near Nguyen Sy Sach street). These pools are also quite popular.

There are two times for swimmers to choose from: 5-7 am and 5-7 pm; however, the afternoon is still the busiest. Visiting the swimming pool of Vocational School No. 4 last Sunday afternoon, we witnessed hundreds of people, young and old, teenagers and even families, immersing themselves in the cool water to escape the early summer heat, but the largest group was teenagers. According to a pool employee, this is the peak time for the pool, after students have finished their exams.
Concerned about whether the water quality here was guaranteed, we were assured that it couldn't operate if it wasn't. However, this person also admitted that there was no circulating water filtration system; the water was treated with chlorine chemicals every day. As for claims that other places change the water in their pools, that is completely untrue.
Given the recent increase in drowning incidents, enrolling children in swimming lessons is essential. However, while relaxing in the clear blue water during the summer is enjoyable and beneficial to health, its safety cannot be guaranteed. It may contain harmful agents that, without timely preventative measures, can enter the body and cause illness. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid swimming during peak hours of sunlight, such as late morning, midday, and early afternoon, and to shower thoroughly after swimming.
Following a series of drowning incidents, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Quang Quy signed a document sent to provincial Departments of Education and Training, academies, universities, colleges, and vocational schools, requesting the implementation of measures to prevent drowning among students; preparing conditions for organizing swimming lessons as part of the curriculum and extracurricular activities, with the determination to reduce drowning incidents, especially during the summer break. Schools are responsible for advising students not to swim in places with unsanitary and dangerous water sources. The Ministry of Education and Training assigns functional units responsible for student affairs, school health, and physical education to organize swimming classes for students in areas where conditions permit; proactively advise, propose, and submit to competent authorities for approval the plan for organizing and implementing activities to prevent drowning accidents annually and for the period 2013-2015. |
