On September 3, Hoang Hoa District Police said that after receiving a report from the family of Chu Ngoc Thanh (a 6th grade student at Hoang Ngoc Secondary School, Hang Hoa District (Thanh Hoa), the authorities immediately began investigating the case. At the scene, the police collected 4 blood-stained syringes.

According to Mr. Chu Dinh Hieu (33 years old, in Hoang Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Thanh's father), at about 11:30 on August 30, after school, Thanh rode his bicycle home. When he reached a relatively deserted inter-village road, Thanh saw a group of 4 young men injecting drugs, so he turned around and ran away.

At this time, the "drug addicts" chased after them, blocked the road, restrained them, covered their mouths, dragged Thanh and her bicycle into a place with many trees and threatened them not to scream. At the same time, a local person passed by, afraid of being discovered, so the group dragged Thanh into the fence. One of them used a syringe to stab Thanh's left arm and quickly got on two motorbikes and fled.

Thanh was so scared that she ran home and told her parents about the incident. Her family immediately took her to the health center to get vaccinated and buy HIV medication. Thanh's mental state is still not stable, so her family asked for permission for her to take a break from school for treatment.

According to Thanh's description, the person holding the child had a scar on his left eyebrow and a dragon tattoo on one of his arms.
