Closing of the 18th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee

On the afternoon of May 16th, the 18th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee concluded. Many issues were discussed and opinions were given.

From May 14-16, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly discussed and gave opinions on the draft amendment to the 1992 Constitution; heard reports on the confidence vote at the 5th session of the 13th National Assembly; the draft Law on Bidding (amended); the Government's supplementary report assessing the results of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and the State budget in 2012; the situation of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and the State budget in the first months of 2013; gave opinions on the plan for allocating increased revenue and savings in the State budget in 2012; approved the Project on reforming the National Assembly Office to improve the quality and efficiency of its operations; and heard a report on the establishment of a National Assembly television channel.

The 18th session of the National Assembly Standing Committee has concluded.

Earlier that morning, the National Assembly Standing Committee heard a report on the establishment of the National Assembly Television channel. After hearing the presentation and explanations from relevant departments, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung agreed to assign Vietnam National Radio (VNR) to coordinate with the National Assembly Office to operate the National Assembly Television channel. Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung expressed confidence that VNR would perform this task well and requested the project be implemented soon, but stressed the need for thorough preparation in terms of personnel and infrastructure to ensure the channel operates effectively.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung also noted that, despite the establishment of the National Assembly Television channel, central and local television channels still need to increase the airtime dedicated to publicizing the activities of the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels.

In the closing session, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly heard a report on the preparations for the confidence vote at the 5th Session of the 13th National Assembly and gave opinions on the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution.
