Born without genitals in An Giang province, the baby also suffered from abdominal wall hernia and umbilical hernia, causing the entire intestines and bladder to protrude outside the body.

The infant was transferred from An Giang General Hospital to Children's Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City with the small intestine, large intestine, and bladder exposed outside the abdominal wall. Doctors were also unable to determine the baby's gender as they could not find ovaries, uterus, penis, or testicles.

According to Dr. Dao Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of Children's Hospital 1, the patient was diagnosed with abdominal wall hernia accompanied by umbilical hernia. While abdominal wall or umbilical hernias are not uncommon, the condition where the entire intestine and bladder protrude like the child's is very rare.

To prevent infection of the exposed organs, doctors reconstructed the abdominal wall to place the intestines and bladder back into their correct positions. They also created a urinary tract and an artificial anus so the baby could urinate and defecate. As of this morning, the baby's health is stable, the reconstructed abdominal wall is dry, and there are no signs of infection.

"Since the genitals are still missing, determining the baby's sex will be based on chromosomes," said Dr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, from the Department of General Surgery.

The baby's mother said she had regular prenatal checkups but didn't detect any birth defects in her child. It wasn't until she went into premature labor at 32 weeks and the baby was born that doctors informed her that the baby had an abnormal abdominal cavity.

According to doctors at Children's Hospital 1, abdominal wall hernias accompanied by umbilical hernias make children more susceptible to infection. These patients often have co-existing cardiovascular and spinal conditions.
