A child patient in Thai Nguyen was playing when suddenly he was attacked by his family's dog, causing multiple injuries and heavy blood loss.

The child was brought to the Emergency Department of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital on July 22 with injuries to the ankle, face, broken nose, and heavy blood loss. After emergency treatment, the patient has overcome the critical stage, gradually stabilized, and is being monitored at the hospital.

The family said the baby was playing alone in the kitchen when suddenly the dog attacked him. When they heard the baby crying, they ran to see that the dog had bitten the baby's head and face.

On July 20, Viet Duc Hospital also admitted a 77-year-old woman in Hanoi who was seriously bitten by a German Shepherd. The patient had a laceration on her left chin, five wounds on both arms, two wounds on her right thigh, and a bruise on her left chest wall.

She was bitten by a dog while bringing food to her grandson. She was unable to fight back. Her grandson ran in to rescue her but was unsuccessful. A group of young men chased and beat the dog with sticks before it finally released her.

In 2018, Vietnam recorded 86 deaths from rabies, an increase of 12 cases compared to 2017. When bitten by a dog, it is necessary to inject anti-rabies serum, monitor the dog's progress to see if it has rabies or not to proactively prevent it. Pet dogs need to be fully vaccinated against rabies.
