20-month-old boy had his nose bitten by a family dog
A child patient in Thai Nguyen was playing when he was suddenly attacked by a family dog, causing multiple injuries and heavy blood loss.
The child was brought to the Emergency Department of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital on July 22 with injuries to the ankle, face, broken nose, and heavy blood loss. After emergency treatment, the patient has overcome the critical stage, gradually stabilized, and is being monitored at the hospital.
The family said the child was playing alone in the kitchen when suddenly the family dog attacked. When they heard the child crying, the family ran to see and found the child had been bitten by the dog, tearing the head and face.

On July 20, Viet Duc Hospital also admitted a 77-year-old woman in Hanoi who was seriously bitten by a German Shepherd. The patient had a laceration on her left chin, five wounds on both arms, two wounds on her right thigh, and a bruise on her left chest wall.
She was bitten by a dog while bringing food to her grandson and was unable to fight back. Her grandson ran in to rescue her but was unsuccessful. Then a group of young men chased her with sticks and beat her until the dog let her go.
In 2018, Vietnam recorded 86 deaths from rabies, an increase of 12 cases compared to 2017. When bitten by a dog, it is necessary to inject anti-rabies serum, monitor the dog's progress to see if it has rabies or not to proactively prevent it. Pet dogs must be fully vaccinated against rabies.
