Boy beaten by father and stepmother, leaving bruises all over his body
The 14-year-old boy told his grandfather that his father and stepmother used wooden sticks and broom handles to beat him, leaving him with bruises all over his body.
On March 31, the leader of the People's Committee of Lien Ha commune (Dong Anh district, Hanoi) said that Nguyen Van Them admitted that he and his second wife beat their child because he often skipped school to play soccer.
"Because the boy was scared, we made a record to hand him over to his grandparents for care and reported the incident to Dong Anh district authorities for investigation," said the leader.

Three days earlier, Mr. Hoang Duc Hong (residing in Dong Anh district) discovered that his 14-year-old grandson had many bruises on his body and red circles around his eyes. When he questioned him, the boy said that his father and stepmother had beaten him with wooden sticks and broom handles. Mr. Hong then took his grandson to the Lien Ha commune police station to report the incident.
According to Mr. Hong, his daughter and Mr. Nguyen Van Them have two sons, but due to conflicts, the couple divorced many years ago. The eldest son lives with his grandparents while the 14-year-old boy lives with his father and stepmother.
Dong Anh district authorities are clarifying the incident.
