Patient 428 died of myocardial infarction on the basis of serious illness and Covid-19
The Treatment Subcommittee - National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control announced the death of a patient: Patient 428, male, 70 years old, residing in Minh An ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam.
The patient had a history of chronic renal failure, had been on dialysis twice a week for over 10 years, had high blood pressure - heart failure, and ischemic heart disease.
On July 9, 2020, the patient felt chest pain and fatigue, so he was admitted to Da Nang Hospital with the diagnosis: End-stage renal disease / Artificial kidney / Hypertension / Ischemic heart disease / End-stage heart failure / Pneumonia.
The patient was admitted to the Department of Internal Medicine and Urology for treatment. On July 26, 2020, the patient's throat swab test showed positive results for SARS-CoV-2 virus and he was actively treated at Da Nang Hospital.
At 5:30 a.m. on July 30, 2020, the patient experienced respiratory failure, was intubated, placed on VCV ventilator, and underwent continuous venovenous hemofiltration. At 7:30 a.m. on July 30, 2020, the patient experienced a slow and intermittent heart rate, and cardiac arrest. CPR was performed and the heart returned after 5 minutes.

Five minutes later, the patient developed bradycardia and was given emergency care and placed on a ventilator in the ICU. After five minutes of pulse loss, he was resuscitated and his pulse returned and his blood pressure increased to 190 - 200 mmHg. After 30 minutes, his blood pressure dropped to 140 - 110/70 mmHg.
In the early morning of July 31, 2020, the patient had cardiac arrest, was given emergency care on the spot, but died at 5:30 a.m. on July 31, 2020. The Treatment Subcommittee assessed that this was a very serious case of an elderly patient with many serious underlying diseases. The patient had been consulted many times by the Treatment Subcommittee and leading experts in emergency resuscitation, cardiology, and infectious diseases; was treated by Da Nang Hospital and Hue Central Hospital, with intensive care and continuous emergency care, but died.
Cause of death: Myocardial infarction in a patient with underlying hypertension, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, end-stage chronic renal failure, complications: respiratory failure due to heart failure and Covid-19.
