Patient in Da Nang officially tested positive for SARS-COV-2

Reporting at the meeting, Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long informed about the case in Da Nang (patient number 416). The Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology conducted in-depth tests and confirmed positive results for SARS-COV-2 on the morning of July 25, 2020.

This morning, July 25, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired a meeting of the Government Standing Committee to listen to the National Steering Committee on Covid-19 Prevention and Control report on the situation and propose measures in the context of a patient in Da Nang being confirmed positive for SARS-COV-2, becoming case number 416.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, the Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Health to report on the situation, especially the case in Da Nang. He emphasized the need to remain calm, have a serious approach and approach to effectively prevent the spread of the disease to the community. There needs to be a methodical, drastic and timely direction and to make some necessary decisions in the coming time, especially in Da Nang City, the Central region as well as major cities.

The Da Nang Center for Disease Control has tested 105 people who have been in close contact with the patient and the results have been negative for SARS-COV-2. Currently, the Da Nang Center for Disease Control is continuing to compile a list of people who have been in close contact to take samples for testing and carry out medical isolation.

Patient No. 416 is a 57-year-old male residing at Group 51, Hoa Khanh Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City. On July 17, 2020, the patient showed symptoms of cough and fever. On July 20, 2020, he was admitted to Da Nang C Hospital with mild fever symptoms. X-ray showed inflammatory lung lesions. The patient is on a ventilator due to respiratory failure and has been transferred to Da Nang Hospital for treatment.

According to family information, in the past month, the patient has only stayed in Da Nang City, has not traveled outside the province, rarely traveled far from the residential area, only stayed at home to look after his grandchildren, communicated with neighbors, and did not contact with strangers.

- About epidemiological history:

On July 7, 2020, the patient brought his mother to Ngu Hanh Son District Medical Center for heart disease treatment and took care of her for 2 days there. On July 10, 2020, the patient's mother was transferred to Da Nang Hospital for continued treatment.

On July 16, 2020, the patient went to the 5th floor of the Cardiovascular Intervention Department - Cardiovascular Center (Da Nang Hospital) to take care of his mother who was hospitalized. On July 17, 2020, the patient returned home and had signs of fever and felt a little tired. That same evening, the patient attended an engagement party on Nguyen Luong Street, Hoa Khanh Bac.

On July 18, 2020, the patient attended his wife's nephew's wedding at For You Palace Wedding and Conference Center (2/9 Street, Hoa Cuong Bac Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang).

The patient is living with his wife and daughter at home. The patient has another daughter who is married and lives separately in Group 59, Hoa Khanh Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City. The patient has a 92-year-old mother residing in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District.

On July 23, 2020, the Da Nang Center for Disease Control tested twice for SARS-COV-2 with positive results. The test sample at the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute tested positive for SARS-COV-2 on the morning of July 24, 2020. The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology conducted in-depth testing and confirmed positive results for SARS-COV-2 on the morning of July 25, 2020.
