The first leukemia patient successfully received a stem cell transplant at Nghe An General Hospital
(Baonghean.vn) - This morning (April 16), the first leukemia patient to successfully undergo a stem cell transplant at the Department of Clinical Hematology - Nghe An General Hospital was discharged from the hospital in the joy and happiness of his family as well as the hospital's medical staff.

Dr. Cu Nam Thang - Head of the Department of Clinical Hematology - Nghe An General Hospital said that patient Cao Thi Thu, 45 years old in Truong Thi ward, Vinh city was diagnosed with IgA Kappa Multiple Myeloma in March 2019. After many chemotherapy treatments at the Department of Clinical Hematology - Nghe An General Hospital, the patient achieved complete remission and was eligible for autologous stem cell transplantation.
The transplant was performed on March 17, 2020 at Nghe An General Hospital with consultation and supervision of experts from the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
By April 16, the patient's health had fully recovered, and all test results met the criteria for discharge. The patient was instructed to continue monitoring and care at home and scheduled for a follow-up visit in 2 weeks.

Autologous stem cell transplantation is a new, specialized technique of hematology and blood transfusion that has been applied to treat leukemia patients in general, especially multiple myeloma and lymphoma. The first successful case has opened up opportunities for many leukemia patients to be treated with new, advanced methods right at Nghe An General Hospital of Friendship, reducing treatment and travel costs for patients."
