In particular, if farmers mix antibiotics into the feed of laying hens or feed them with industrial dyes to make the yolks of their eggs darker, resembling those of free-range chickens, it is even more dangerous. Consuming food containing industrial dyes over a long period can lead to many diseases, especially cancer.

Eggs have long been considered a nutritious food, providing energy and being relatively safe. However, recently, authorities have repeatedly discovered cases of smuggled eggs on the market that do not meet safety standards. In particular, there is the issue of eggs from laying hens contaminated with dangerous antibiotics that pose a health risk to consumers. So the question is: are eggs from these antibiotic-contaminated chickens also contaminated with antibiotics?

Chicken eggs can also be contaminated with antibiotics.

According to veterinary experts, if laying hens are contaminated with antibiotics (due to injections to combat disease or stimulate egg production), there is no reason why their eggs would not be contaminated with antibiotics. The simple principle is that eggs are formed and developed within the hen's body from substances absorbed during the rearing process. Therefore, if the hens are contaminated with antibiotics through injections or mixing them into their feed, their eggs will naturally also be contaminated with those antibiotics.

Chicken eggs can absolutely become contaminated with antibiotics if the laying hens are infected with antibiotics.

According to Dr. Tran Hong Con, Head of the Department of Chemical Technology, Hanoi University of Science, in the current context, poultry products smuggled from China are very dangerous. "Smuggled Chinese chicken eggs entering Vietnam."Male"Even if it's not counterfeit, it could be contaminated or carrying pathogens. Therefore, people should not buy and consume it as it would be very dangerous to their health."

Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Dang Vang, Chairman of the Vietnam Livestock Association, warned that food products of unknown origin, especially eggs and poultry that have not undergone quarantine, will carry pathogens, posing a danger to the health of consumers who buy these products for food because they are cheap.

How to choose clean eggs

Associate Professor Bui Huu Doan from Hanoi University of Agriculture stated that it is currently very difficult to test for antibiotic residues in livestock products in general and in eggs in particular. To determine this, qualitative testing is required, followed by quantitative analysis of antibiotic residues using methods such as zone determination, electrophoresis, chromatography, or ELISA. These testing methods are very expensive because they require highly sophisticated and costly equipment.

However, consumers should not be overly concerned about the issue of eggs contaminated with harmful antibiotics. Authorities regularly take samples to check the quality of feed from animal feed factories, including checking for banned antibiotics.

“For peace of mind, the best way for consumers is to buy branded eggs. Eggs that are certified for quality must meet three main conditions: clean feed, clean hens that have been fully vaccinated, and thirdly, an advanced farming process supervised by professional veterinary officers,” Dr. Doan stated.

Additionally, when buying eggs, choose those with clean, fresh shells from the frozen food section. Avoid eggs with stains, cracks, or holes, as these may be contaminated with dangerous bacteria.
