(Baonghean.vn) - Vinh City General Hospital is the first medical unit in the region approved by the Ministry of Health to pilot the medical image archiving and communication system (PACS) in Decision No. 1275/QD-BYT dated February 9, 2018.
Previously, since September 2017, in order to improve the quality of examination and treatment, Vinh City General Hospital has piloted the use of the medical image archiving and transmission system (PACS) in the field of imaging diagnosis and online consultation for patients with hospital fees (not yet applied to patients with health insurance cards).

PACS is a software system for storing, transmitting and online consultation of medical images, extracted from diagnostic imaging devices such as: CT scanner; MRI; X-ray... to serve the process of examination and treatment of diseases.
PACS software is considered a breakthrough in the medical industry in disease diagnosis, providing the ability to quickly retrieve information and store accurate images; improving treatment efficiency and reducing waiting time for patients.
According to Decision No. 1275/QD-BYT dated February 9, 2018, the Hospital is authorized to use the PACS software system to process images, read results and store scan results: X-ray, CT.Scanner, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA).
Perform paper results, save DICOM image data on disk, replace film on PACS software system for X-ray, CT.Scanner, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) results.
Thus, from March 1, 2018, all patients (including health insurance beneficiaries) who come to the hospital for examination and treatment and are assigned to have X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs, the hospital will not pay by film (as before) but by images printed on cellophane/or floppy disks.
Particularly for cases of patients being transferred to other hospitals, in this initial stage, the hospital will print the film and return it to the patient.

The Ministry of Health approved the pilot implementation of the medical image archiving and communication system (PACS) at Vinh City General Hospital. |
According to Doctor CKII Nguyen Hong Truong - Director of Vinh City General Hospital, the pilot implementation of PACS application helps upper-level hospitals easily access the results of diagnostic imaging taken at lower-level hospitals (by accessing the system, or viewing through disks for CT scans, scanners or MRIs...); store medical imaging data on the system for a long time; at the same time, save a lot of costs compared to using conventional film (about 2-3 billion per year); avoid wasting social insurance funds and minimize environmental pollution by not using film and chemicals".
The implementation of the PACS software system not only benefits the hospital in particular and the health sector in general, but also practically brings the best quality of service to the people. This is considered an important step forward, improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, marking the hospital's innovation process towards perfecting the "Smart Hospital" model.
