Nghe An General Hospital: Cured many severe and critical Covid-19 patients

On September 6, the Department of Virology and Parasitology, Center for Tropical Diseases, Nghe An General Hospital organized the discharge of 10 Covid-19 patients who had been cured and met the criteria for discharge. Notably, among these, 4 critically ill patients were completely cured.
Dr. Dau Huy Hoan - Deputy Director of the Department of Health; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Huong - Director of Nghe An General Hospital and the Hospital Board of Directors were present at the discharge ceremony, giving gifts and encouraging the patients.
Center for Tropical Diseases (Nghe An General Friendship Hospital) was assigned by Nghe An province and Nghe An Department of Health to treat all patients.Covid-19throughout the province. After Nghe An Field Hospitals No. 1, 2, 3, 4 were established, the Tropical Disease Center became a separate treatment facility for severe and critical Covid-19 patients.

Since June 14, the Tropical Disease Center has treated 282 patients. During the first outbreak (June 14 to July 19), the Center treated 83 patients; during the second outbreak (August 8 to present), the Center treated 199 patients.
According to statistics, the rate of critically ill Covid-19 patients admitted to the center for treatment is 27.6%. The number of Covid-19 patients over 70 years old who had to be admitted to the center for treatment during the second wave of the epidemic is 21 people, accounting for 10.6%.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Huong - Director of Nghe An General Hospital said: To save lives and help Covid-19 patients recover, the hospital has assigned the best doctors and nurses, mobilized modern machinery and equipment to serve and treat patients. Doctors and nurses have been quarantined and fought with patients continuously since June 14 and have not returned home yet.

Among the 4 severe and critical Covid-19 patients who were cured and discharged today (September 6), there was patient LTN (31 years old), with a history of chronic kidney failure and periodic dialysis. The patient studied in Ho Chi Minh City, was confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 and cured, however, the patient was later re-infected. Returning to Nghe An, patient LTN was admitted to the Tropical Disease Center for treatment. After 24 days of treatment, the patient's condition was stable and he was eligible for discharge.

Another special case is Mr. VTL (92 years old, in Nghi An commune, Vinh city), the patient has been bedridden for 5 years, the patient was infected with Covid-19 from his daughter, patient TTH. Patient VTL was hospitalized in a serious condition, with a very poor prognosis due to many high-risk factors. After 3 weeks of intensive treatment, with dedicated and attentive care from doctors and nurses, patient VTL was able to breathe on his own, was weaned off oxygen and was eligible for discharge.

At this discharge ceremony, Dr. Dau Huy Hoan, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Huong and the Board of Directors of Nghe An General Hospital presented certificates of recovery; presented gifts, encouraged and advised patients on health care, disease prevention and control after the active treatment process. Dr. Dau Huy Hoan - Deputy Director of the Department of Health praised and presented a gift worth 5 million VND from the Nghe An Health Department to the Center for Tropical Diseases.

In addition to treatment, Nghe An General Hospital is currently carrying out the task assigned by the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Health, which is to build an additional 1,000-bed emergency treatment area for Covid-19 patients with full modern medical equipment such as ventilators, filters, ECMO, etc.
