In November 2017, Audi also had to recall 5,000 cars in Europe to adjust the software because it was determined that the cars emitted more nitrogen oxide than announced.
In 2015, Volkswagen, Audi's parent company, was found to have used emissions-cheating software in its vehicles, allowing them to meet nitrogen oxide emissions standards in the test lab but in reality, they could emit toxic gases up to 40 times higher than permitted levels.
