Being mocked, Rooney slapped the wrestler

Man Utd captain slapped boxer Wade Barrett in the face after being mocked at the WWE wrestling arena in Manchester on the evening of November 9.

Barrett suddenly took a hit from Rooney.

The incident happened when Wade Barrett approached the spectator area where Wayne Rooney and his son were standing to taunt them.

"I feel sorry for your son having to witness his father's failure. He's used to it every time his father goes onto the pitch to play football," Barrett told Rooney.

After Barrett's provocation, the Man Utd captain immediately slapped the wrestler in the face. Barrett then fell to the floor but was able to control his reaction. The two sides did not take any further actions towards each other after that.

Rooney and Barrett had problems with each other after a previous match.

Some opinions say that the incident may just be an act. WWE is a performance wrestling.

Barrett was at the WWE arena in Manchester on the evening of November 9 to accompany another wrestler, Sheamus. After Rooney slapped Barrett, Sheamus seemed to lose focus and let his opponent Cesaro score. Cesaro then ran to celebrate near Rooney's position.

Barrett is a Preston fan and has a grudge against Rooney. After Man Utd beat Preston 3-1 in the FA Cup last season, the wrestler posted a message on Twitter and accused Rooney of diving in the 88th minute.
