(Baonghean.vn) - During the trial, both the plaintiff and the defendant presented evidence confirming that the cow belonged to their family, forcing the court to conduct a DNA test to determine the bloodline.

Originating from the habit of letting cattle roam freely in the forest, leading to disputes, forcing each other to go to court and the economic loss from the fee for DNA testing of the cattle being almost equal to the disputed property is a tragicomic story that happened in Que Phong (Nghe An).

The most recent case is the dispute between Mr. Tho Ba Xo's family, in D2 Minh Chau village, Tri Le commune, and Mr. Luong Van Thu's family, in Lam village, Tri Le commune.

Mr. Xo said that in 2005, his family was given a crossbred Sind cow by the State. After raising it, it gave birth to a herd of cows, including a bull with the characteristics of "red fur, slightly black hump and neck, left ear marked with a straight cut about 2cm deep, horns about 5cm long, timid nature".

Mr. Xo's cow was raised on a farm in Muong Long village, Tri Le commune. On May 9, 2017, the cow went missing. Mr. Xo went looking for it and learned that Mr. Luong Van Thu had entered the farm and was currently sending it to someone else to take care of.

Mr. Thu said that the cow in dispute was his cow that was lost in August 2016. The cow that gave birth to the cow has died. He and his family searched for it and found it, then brought it home to raise, but because there was not enough grass, they sent it to Mr. Lu Van Phuong's farm to raise.

After many unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation, the cow "could not speak", on September 26, 2017, Mr. Xo filed a lawsuit to the court to resolve the case according to the law, causing the relationship between the two families to become more tense, to the point of not even looking at each other.

On January 30, 2018, the People's Court of Que Phong district brought the case to trial. However, to resolve this dispute, it took a lot of time and effort. The People's Court of Que Phong district had to take tissue samples from the cow that the two families were disputing, with the tissue of the crossbred Sind cow that Mr. Xo's family was raising to determine the bloodline.

After more than a month, the results determined that the disputed cow had the same bloodline as Mr. Xo's family's cow, and the court declared that the cow belonged to Mr. Xo's family.

At this time, Mr. Thu's family not only did not get the cow, but also had to pay for on-site appraisal and DNA testing of 5 million VND, half the value of the cow that he claimed was his.

On average, the unit brings 500 cases to trial each year, including cases such as DNA testing for cows.
