Family tragedy from arguing about when to take the child to the doctor
Mr. Chau confessed to killing his wife due to disagreements about getting a medical examination for their child with Down syndrome.
On February 24, Ha Tinh police said that suspect Le Hai Chau (61 years old, residing in Ngu Tinh village, Cuong Gian commune, Nghi Xuan district) during his detention repeatedly expressed remorse for accidentally killing his wife 3 days ago. Mr. Chau is facing charges of committing a crime.Killing, according to Article 123 of the 2015 Penal Code.
According to authorities, on February 19, due to a family conflict, Mr. Chau used a 30cm long machete to attack his wife, Chu Thi Ha (56 years old), causing her death. After committing the crime, he went to the beach of Xuan Lien commune to commit suicide, but was discovered by the commune police, restrained, and taken to headquarters.

Mr. Chau and his wife have 3 children, the eldest son has Down syndrome, and is currently unmarried. 20 years ago, Mrs. Ha left her hometown to work in Korea. Mr. Chau stays home to work for hire and take care of the children.
"Mrs. Ha only comes back once every few years. Two months ago, she went back to her hometown to celebrate Tet, and is planning to go abroad again soon. Thanks to the money his wife sends back, Mr. Chau has saved up to build a spacious house, and his life is considered quite good in the village," said a relative.
Police officers said that during questioning, Mr. Chau denied killing his wife out of jealousy, saying the cause was due to differences in opinions.

"On February 19, Mrs. Ha wanted to take her eldest son to Hanoi for a medical examination. Mr. Chau said that Tet had just passed and he would wait a few more days. The couple then had a loud argument," said an investigator.
Examining the scene, authorities determined that Ms. Ha died from multiple slashes, but Mr. Chau said he only slashed his neck once.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quy, Head of Ngu Tinh village, Mr. Chau has had two strokes, sometimes his mind is unstable but has never caused displeasure to his neighbors.
"A few weeks ago, they were still going to celebrate Tet together, very affectionately, but now they've ended up like this. The husband is in jail, the wife is dead, who will take care of their sick child?" the neighbor said sadly.
