A man destroyed his car with a hammer on March 7 after traffic police in Dazhi, Hubei province, China fined him for illegal parking and impounded his car for 10 days.

The man had been told by his relatives that the police had impounded his car and were about to tow it away. He tried to get the police to release his car, but they refused. In a fit of rage, the man took a hammer from the cab, smashed the car body and the window, and fled the scene.
When police checked the computer records, they discovered that the car’s owner had racked up more than 240 traffic tickets over the past six years, including illegal parking and running red lights. He owed 36,000 yuan ($5,700) in fines.
