Tips for students: Accumulate soft skills from clubs, take on part-time jobs to broaden your career prospects.

Currently, graduates have many job opportunities right after graduation. However, to seize these opportunities, new graduates and engineers need to equip themselves with additional soft skills to meet the needs of employers.

Recruitment season

Since the beginning of June, in preparation for the university graduation season, Tam Duc Tri Education Co., Ltd. has organized a program to meet with mathematics students from Vinh University with the hope of recruiting 40 teachers to work at the center. This is truly a great opportunity for graduating students, allowing them to work right in the center of Nghe An province with a fairly stable income and benefits.

However, to be selected, candidates must also go through a process.recruitmentThe process is quite rigorous, consisting of a preliminary round, a professional knowledge test (written exam), and an advanced round involving mock lectures and handling pedagogical situations to thoroughly assess language skills, expression style, teaching demeanor, and knowledge standards.

Through her direct involvement in recruitment, Ms. Pham Thi Lien, Deputy Director of the company, stated: Direct recruitment at universities helps the unit acquire high-quality teachers, primarily graduates with excellent or good grades, recommended by faculty members within their departments. For the remaining candidates, the success rate after several rounds of testing is approximately 60-70%.

Currently, applicants are quite well-prepared professionally when they come for the recruitment process. However, some candidates do not meet the requirements, mainly due to a lack of knowledge. After recruitment, we still need to provide further training and conduct regular assessments.

As a top-performing graduate who has officially started working at this center, Duong Dinh Dien said: "I began accumulating experience from the moment I entered university by working as a tutor. In my third year, I applied for a teaching assistant position at the education center to learn from senior colleagues. Alongside practical experience, I also had to study diligently at school to achieve good academic results."

With an excellent graduation certificate, Danh Duc, a Business Administration student from Vinh University, has also passed the first round of recruitment at Hoa Sen Home Company and has many job opportunities immediately after graduation. Previously, Duc Hieu, a student with a good grade from Vinh University of Technology and Education, was also recruited by the company and officially started working on July 7th.

During the recruitment process, Mr. Pham Van Phu, Deputy Director of Sales at the company, stated: "We are very interested in recent graduates for various job positions such as market staff, sales controllers, and business interns."

Specifically for talented students like Duc or Hieu, we will recruit them for the position of prospective administrator (training for management positions) to attract high-achieving students studying business, management, finance, and accounting.

For this position, after passing the interview rounds, candidates will receive training and development according to a special roadmap and may have the opportunity to become a store manager after 12 months of work. The income for this position is quite high, with total benefits up to 25 million VND/month and many other bonuses and benefits.

Not yet adapted to reality

To prepare its teaching staff for the 2025-2026 school year, The Diamond Foreign Language Center held interviews for English teachers and teaching assistants at the end of July. Many graduates from teacher training programs in Nghe An and other universities across the country participated in the interviews.

Working with the candidates, the center's representative stated: Although there is a high demand for teachers, only a few candidates meet the job requirements. Our current difficulty is recruiting English teachers for primary or secondary school students, but most candidates are trained to teach at the high school level. Therefore, they are not yet familiar with the work environment.

According to current requirements, teachers wishing to participate in the enhanced English program must have an international language certificate. However, some students, despite graduating with a degree in foreign languages, still lack such a certificate.

July marks the graduation season for universities. It's also the beginning of the recruitment season for companies and businesses, seeking to hire well-trained and qualified graduates and engineers. At Vinh University, during the graduation ceremony, the university organized a job fair offering over 3,000 positions, with many international employers such as Foxconn Group, Ju Teng Group, and Luxshare ICT participating in the recruitment process.

Similarly, the job fair at Vinh University of Technology and Education was held concurrently with the graduation ceremony. This truly served as a bridge for students to explore the job market and meet recruiters from various industries and fields.

In reality, although there is a high demand for recruitment, the number of recent graduates who meet the requirements of businesses is still low.

Mr. Nguyen Luu Phong, Director of BYD Song Lam dealership, said: "We have partnered with all universities in Nghe An province, such as Vinh University, Vinh University of Technology and Education, and Viet Duc College, to find candidates for training in specialized fields related to automobiles with new technologies such as electric and environmentally friendly vehicles. However, unfortunately, there are currently not many schools that train in new technologies in line with global development trends, so recruiting skilled and highly qualified candidates is not easy."

The number of applicants was not as high as the company had hoped. Some students, despite having good academic records, lacked essential soft skills such as customer service, foreign language skills, and communication skills.

These skills aren't too difficult, and if students consciously accumulate them while still in school by participating in clubs, working in teams, or taking on part-time jobs, they will gain more experience and open up more job opportunities after graduation.
