(Baonghean.vn) - The secret to the longevity and mental sharpness of a couple living to over 100 years old in Nghia Hop (Tan Ky) is diligent exercise, always showing love, consideration, and sharing with everyone.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Chairman of the Elderly Association of Tan Ky District: Mr. Pham Van Hoanh (104 years old, born on April 3, 1912) and his wife, Mrs. Thai Thi Tiu (101 years old, born on June 10, 1915), residing in Hamlet 3, Nghia Hop Commune, are the oldest living couple in Tan Ky District. Both are farmers.

Since getting married, the couple has had nine children in total, including five sons and four daughters. Their second son, Pham Van Sanh, born in 1947, was a martyr who died on the southern battlefield during the war against the US. The couple currently has 26 grandchildren, the oldest being 54 years old and the youngest 24.
The couple has a total of 49 great-grandchildren. Their oldest is currently 26 years old, and the youngest is 3 months old. Fifteen of them have university or college degrees. They currently live with their youngest son, Pham Van Hung (born in 1967). Despite being over 100 years old, the couple remains lucid and enjoys conversations with everyone.

When asked about the secret to their longevity, Mr. and Mrs. Hoanh both attributed it to being carefree, honest, cheerful, harmonious with everyone, showing respect for elders, actively participating in cultural and artistic activities, and regularly exercising.
The couple shared that manual labor has kept them healthy and strong. And the secret to their happy life together until old age is sharing and caring for each other.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh (born in 1971), the youngest daughter-in-law of the couple, further revealed: "Even at 104 years old, the old man still enjoys listening to the radio, reading newspapers, and doing household chores like chopping vegetables for the pigs and chickens; when the children are busy, he can cook. Both of them are kind and simple people, so they have never offended anyone, from children to the elderly."
Mrs. Thai Thi Tiu recounted that she wakes up at 5 a.m. every day. Afterward, she cleans the house and garden, exercises for 30 minutes each morning, and prepares breakfast. Then, she and her husband pick tea leaves together, brew tea, and invite neighbors over to enjoy it and chat.

Grandma Tiu further confided: "From childhood until now, my family has been poor, and we've lacked food, but luckily my children and grandchildren are very filial. I think it's thanks to their attentive care that I'm still healthy today."
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Chairman of the Elderly Association of Tan Ky District, said: "In the world and in Vietnam, couples who live to over 100 years old, as blessed with wishes like 'a hundred years of happiness' or 'living together until old age,' are very rare. The simple life of Mr. and Mrs. Hoanh is truly happy and worthy of respect."
