The secret to raising civets and earning billions of dong from an old farmer in the West
Owning a civet farm with nearly 200 civets, Mr. Pham Van Tuan (45 years old, living in Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City) earns over 1 billion VND per year.
Let ferrets listen to lyrical music and meditation music.
Visit the farmcivetIn the morning, at Mr. Tuan's house, we were surprised to see hundreds of pigs lying still in their cages, sleeping and listening to lyrical music and meditation music.
Explaining this "unique trick", Mr. Tuan said that the farm is located along the road, with many vehicles passing by, causing noise that can easily scare the ferrets. From there, he came up with the idea of letting the ferrets listen to romantic music and meditation music to reduce their wild, aggressive nature.

"Especially for mother ferrets who are in the stage of raising their young, if there is a lot of noise, they can easily become stressed, anxious, and hide their young, causing scratches and infections, making them grow slowly. Letting ferrets listen to music will help overcome this situation," Mr. Tuan added.
Every day, Mr. Tuan turns on the speakers for the ferret to listen to music from 6am to 9pm. After listening to music for a while, the ferret gets used to the music and noises, becomes tame, sleeps deeply and develops well.
"Weasels are nocturnal animals, sleeping during the day, so they need a quiet space to sleep during the day. With this method, I only spend money on speakers, then copy music to a memory card and play it for them to listen to every day. Lyrical music helps weasels sleep deeply, forgetting the noise and chaos outside. Meditation music helps weasels calm down, reducing their wildness and aggressiveness," Mr. Tuan revealed.
Unexpected results
Mr. Tuan said that during his time as a civil servant, he bought 3 civets to raise for fun and to relieve stress after work. During the raising process, he saw that the civets reproduced and brought high economic efficiency, so he boldly invested in raising this wild animal.

In 2019, Mr. Tuan decided to quit his job. Taking advantage of the vacant house space, he built a barn and applied for a certificate to raise pigs.wildlife. Then, he bought 60 female minks from a farm in Binh Duong to multiply the herd. Thanks to his diligence in learning, he successfully multiplied the herd and maintained the number of minks at the farm at nearly 200 parents and reserve minks.
To raise livestock effectively, he built a farm on an area of 300m2.2, divided into 4 breeding areas for breeding mink, reserve mink and baby mink. In particular, the breeding mink breeding area invests in a modern cage system, iron mesh fences, and a system of drinking water directly to each cage. Mink waste is sprayed and washed every day and led directly to the biogas tank to minimize the stench...
Wild ferrets are omnivorous, so they are easy to raise, rarely get sick, and require little care. Their main food is bananas, jackfruit, catfish, rat heads, etc., so each ferret only costs about 2,000 - 3,000 VND per day for food. "Ferrets like to eat bananas, but ripe bananas are very sweet, and eating too much will convert them into sugar, making them obese. Therefore, from 6 months onwards, I mainly feed ferrets raw fish and pre-processed rat heads," said Mr. Tuan.
Minks can reproduce after about 9 months. However, Mr. Tuan often skips 3 breeding times to achieve better reproductive results. Each year, minks give birth to 3 litters, each litter has 2-5 minks.

Every year, Mr. Tuan sells hundreds of breeding mink at the price of 10 million VND/pair (4 million VND for male, 6 million VND for female). Thanks to that, he earns more than 1 billion VND/year.
"Raising civets is low cost. They eat little and can eat food that people can easily find. If any family has a garden, near a ditch or canal, they can grow bananas and catch fish for the civets to eat without any cost," Mr. Tuan shared.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan - Deputy Head of the Binh Thuy District Agricultural Extension Station, commented that Mr. Tuan's civet farming model is highly effective economically. From building a standard barn, the way of raising civets helps them grow well. This is a model that can be replicated so that people can transform and develop their economy./.
