(Baonghean.vn) – So that his children in the village do not have to wade through streams to go to school and face danger during the flood season, Mr. Lo Van Quyen donated his family's forestry land to build a new school.

The story began in 2014, when Quang Phong commune (Que Phong) had a policy of moving the Nam Xai primary school from the inner area to near the village for the convenience of the children of the villagers. Because at the old school, every time they went back and forth they had to wade across a large stream, which was very dangerous during the rainy season, not to mention that students had to miss many days of school during the rainy season, affecting the progress and quality of their studies.

But unfortunately, the terrain in Nam Xai is mainly mountainous, the natural area is large but there is a lack of land to plan the construction of the school. The commune People's Committee and departments and branches mobilized people to transfer land to implement the policy of moving the school. But most people either refused to transfer, or demanded too high a compensation price, while the commune's budget was very limited.

As a party member, holding the position of Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell and Head of the Front Work Committee of Nam Xai village, Mr. Lo Van Quyen (born in 1981) found the commune's policy to be really reasonable, creating conditions for the children of the village to go to school. He discussed with his wife and children about donating forestry land to help the commune and village build a new school. At first, his wife was hesitant, but then she saw that her husband was reasonable, so she agreed to donate 3,650 m2forestry land. His family only received 2 million VND for the trees on the land.

At the end of 2015, the Quang Phong Commune People's Committee leveled the ground and built a new school on the land that Mr. Lo Van Quyen's family voluntarily donated. Currently, due to limited budget, the commune has only been able to build 3 corrugated iron classrooms and a bamboo dormitory for teachers, 3 classes still have to study at the old school. In the future, the commune will invest in building solid, spacious classrooms, and all students will move to the new school.

Regarding the voluntary donation of land to build a school, Mr. Lo Van Quyen shared: “Seeing that it was so difficult and dangerous for students and teachers to go to school during the rainy season, my wife and I agreed to donate land to the commune to build a school. Because of poverty and hardship, I had little education, only finishing junior high school, so I want the next generation to have favorable conditions in studying to gain knowledge, and in the future, to help our family, village and hometown escape poverty.”

For the humane work of Mr. Lo Van Quyen, the commune government, the school and the people of Nam Xai are truly grateful and respectful to him and his wife. In 2016, Mr. Quyen was elected by the party members in Nam Xai as the Party cell secretary.

Mr. Lo Xuan Diep - Chairman of Quang Phong Commune People's Committee said: "Lo Van Quyen's family is not well-off, even in difficult circumstances, but donating land to build a school is a meaningful act, worthy of being commended, worthy of being an exemplary party member".
