"Cadres like that need to leave the system soon because they do not put themselves in the position of the people, and are not worthy of protecting the district's natural resources and environment" - Secretary of the City Party Committee Dinh La Thang said so to the leaders of Hoc Mon district during a working session on the afternoon of May 19.

Mr. Thang requested the leaders of Hoc Mon district to immediately remove the head of the district's Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

The incident leading to this request is related to Tan Minh Company Limited, which specializes in steel production in Hamlet 2, Xuan Thoi Son Commune, operating right in a residential area.

At the voter meeting on May 14, when voters complained, the Secretary of the City Party Committee came to inspect and asked Hoc Mon district to report. However, the 4-page report of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hoc Mon district did not satisfy the Secretary of the City Party Committee.

He asked again: "I just ask you one question: Is this company allowed to be located there according to the planning?"

Head of the Hoc Mon Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Tran Quang Duy, explained: “Dear Secretary! The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has inspected this facility many times and the dust level is within the allowable limit. There has been a monitoring report and it has been included in the relocation list.”

Mr. Thang immediately said: “I ask you, if the factory itself does not meet the conditions to exist, then what do you measure? There is no reason to measure! You say it does not meet the conditions to exist, but you still decide to suspend it and impose fines so many times?”

"You guys made a report that was too insensitive to the people. The last four pages of the report were useless. Those types of officials need to leave the system soon. You don't put yourself in the people's shoes."

Dong Thanh landfill will stop operating in two years.

Continuing to mention the issue of the pilot treatment of medical waste at Dong Thanh landfill, Secretary of the City Party Committee Dinh La Thang expressed his dissatisfaction with the report of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment sent to the Secretary of the City Party Committee. That is a report that, according to Mr. Thang, did not address the main points.

“The landfill is not qualified to exist, it leaks water, and causes pollution, but you keep reporting nonsense. You keep arguing about something that is not legal in itself. The report is very insensitive, asking one thing and answering another,” Mr. Thang said.

According to Secretary Dinh La Thang, he only asked whether Dong Thanh landfill should exist or not, and whether its existence would be harmful to the people. Do not report to him about the legal basis.

“What kind of pilot? A pilot needs time. Since 2013, what kind of pilot has it been? The landfill is not located according to the planning, the government is wrong, so why do the people have to suffer?”

He requested the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to clarify when there will be a new waste treatment site, in accordance with the planning. During the time waiting for treatment, the relocation must ensure hygiene and health conditions for the people.

Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Toan Thang promised to make a specific report. Currently, the waste treatment plant project already exists but is still in the process of being processed.

“I give you no more than two years to solve this problem!” - Secretary Dinh La Thang gave a deadline.
