Party Central Committee Secretary Phan Dinh Trac inspects the current status of Chom Lom suspension bridge

(Baonghean.vn) - Checking the actual situation at Chom Lom suspension bridge, Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac requested the locality to soon repair and renovate the bridge so that people can travel with peace of mind.

On the afternoon of November 10, during a working trip to Nghe An, comrade Phan Dinh Trac - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission revisited Chom Lom suspension bridge, Lang Khe commune, Con Cuong district.

Accompanying were comrades: Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Thai Thanh Quy - Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission.

Chom Lom suspension bridge is 168m long, 2.2m wide, including 2 approach spans, each span is 18m long, 4 cable bundles, main cable is connected to the strap by bolts and steel plates, with a load capacity of 2.5 tons.The bridge gate is cast in steel, with pillars 14.2m high. The bridge deck is paved with teak. The bridge was inaugurated on November 9, 2007.

Secretary of the Lang Khe Commune Party Committee Lo Thi Thuy said that since the bridge was built, the concerns of the local Party Committee, government and people have ended. People no longer have to cross the river by boat, especially during the rainy season when the risk of insecurity is always lurking, especially for students going to school.

"The bridge also contributes greatly to the trade of the people, the development of the raw material area on the left bank of Lam River, and the people have conditions for socio-economic development" - Secretary Thuy added.

However, after 10 years of use, the bridge has deteriorated. In particular, the wooden bridge surface has rotted in some places, causing concern for local people.

More than 10 years ago, on October 7, 2006, 19 students of Lang Khe Secondary School lost their lives when a boat across Lam River sank. Many philanthropists across the country contributed funds along with the State to build the Chom Lom suspension bridge after the tragic accident.

Checking the actual situation and discussing with the leaders of Lang Khe commune, the Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee requested the locality to repair and renovate the bridge so that people can travel with peace of mind.

Reporting to comrade Phan Dinh Trac and the provincial leaders, Secretary of Con Cuong District Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Hung said that the province has decided to allocate 1.5 billion VND to repair and upgrade the bridge. Accordingly, the bridge surface will be made of iron foundation instead of the degraded wooden foundation in December 2017.
