According to the initial investigation by the Ha Trung District Police (Thanh Hoa) on the complaint of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thin's family (Ha Trung District town), at around 2:00 a.m. on June 10, when her family was sleeping on the 3rd floor, they heard a loud explosion. Working with the police, Trung confessed to buying explosives, making homemade mines, and throwing them into Ms. Thin's house to take revenge on Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan (Ms. Thin's husband) and his son due to a previous conflict.
